Victoria to the California Border

We’re finally on our way! After many medical-related issues between Bruce & his dad … I was beginning to wonder.

On the Coho Ferry leaving Victoria Harbour

We caught the 10:30 a.m. ferry out of Victoria to Port Angeles and arrived promptly at 12:00. After attaching the car (it’s a lot cheaper to drive onto the ferry un-hooked!) we were off on Hwy #101 South.

Port Angeles, WA

Our objective was to reach Portland, OR for the night and camp out at the Camping World store there. There were many things on our ‘wish list’ to buy including a propane heater so we could warm up when boondocking and not have to use electric power to run the furnace fan.

We got that and more! Always fun to shop at Camping World! And … free overnight camping to boot!

We left bright and early and headed for Costco to pick up much needed meat, produce and booze! Unfortunately for us, Oregon only sells hard liquor in Liquor Stores, so that aspect was a bust! I also bought a nice pair of khaki jeans which I returned immediately after trying them on as one leg was 2” shorter than the other! I mean I love a bargain but …!!!

We then hit Walmart for a few other things and off we went. It’s amazing … on our trip North last year we seemed to be always one step ahead of spring, even in May. On this trip we seem to be hitting Spring on head-first! The weather is bright, sunny and around 15C.

We stopped for the night at a road-side pullout at the border of Oregon/California with a fine view of Mt. Shasta in the distance. Could be a bit noisy … but it’s FREE!

We’ll head out early tomorrow and hit the Costco in Redding, CA to stock up on Tequila, brandy, Kaluha & ???
