FOREST LAKE, BC

What a find!  The rec site has  11 or so spots stretched out on the lakefront so we took 2 (!) and settled in.  Bruce got his boat down right away for a paddle, I sat under the awning and read.  It’s finally hot … in the high 20’s heading into the 30’s later in the week!  Yeah … shorts and t-shirts finally!

Nice afternoon watching the resident Canada geese with their babies.  We also got out into the lake for a bit of a wash … the water was cold but not freezing like most of the glacier-fed ones we’d been on lately!  Just a relaxing day!

Up early after a mosquito-infested night.  Funny as there weren’t many bugs when we were sitting outside … but they all must

have been heading indoors waiting for us to turn the lights out and then the mounted an all-out attack.  Poor Bruce is full of bites … I didn’t fare as badly … but neither of us got a lot of sleep with all the bzzzzzzzz-ing all nite!

It’s a beautiful morning but quite windy.  Still, we got out for a paddle around the lake and checked out a couple of private residences on the other side.  Very private and nice places!  We also saw squadrons of tadpoles … hundreds of them … around the edges of the lake.  They’re so fat and slow that you can actually reach down in the water and catch them!  Too bad they’re too small to eat!  LOL!

Later that night we scrounged firewood from the other un-occupied sites (oh my…wood is very scarce!) and had a nice campfire after dinner.  A very pleasant night!

We’re still at Forest Lake.  It’s such a nice spot and NO people!  Just the Canada Geese, and some grebes with their babies which are fun to watch.  Not so much fun picking our way thru goose poo to get to the water tho!  We have to do what Bruce’s dad calls the “Goose-poo two step”.   LOL

Bruce has been out trying to fish from the kayak but with no luck.  Who knows what lures to use and how far down the fish are … and WHERE the fish are!  There was a fellow here yesterday that we met … he pulled in quite early – around 7:00 am or so – and was out in his aluminum boat all day.  When he pulled in around 4-ish he was pretty excited as he actually landed a fish!  It was quite a nice one – around 7lbs.  But he was out there ALL DAY and only had a couple of bites and landed this fish … he said he’d been coming to this lake quite a bit and it was the FIRST FISH he’d caught.  So what hope do we have?

I’ve been practice-casting a bit … it’s amazing how much I’ve forgotten!  But it’s coming back which is good.

I think we’ll spend the night here again and then tomorrow head towards Williams Lake and a commercial campground.  We’ve been dry-camping for 4 days now and I finally broke down and took a bath and washed my hair in the lake.  Good thing there’s no one around!  We’ll also need to take on some fresh water and dump our tanks soon.

The weather is still beautiful – warm and sunny but with quite a cool breeze which keeps the mozzies at bay but brings out my goose bumps!
