WILLIAMS LAKE

July 11, 2014

We had to make a decision today whether to stay another day at Forest Lake or move on.  The day dawned clear, sunny and no wind, just beautiful!  We were sorely tempted to stay another day but decided to head south anyway.  We were on the road by 9:30 and headed into Williams Lake.

It wasn’t too far down the road … maybe an hour or so.  Stopped into the Williams Lake Discovery Centre (Tourism Information & Visitor Centre) and found some info on camping etc. The Discovery Centre is well worth a stop, not just for the information available, but it is a very cool building with great displays, a good coffee shop and gift shop!

We then headed to the Williams Lake Stampede Campground!  Right on the stampede grounds!  Not a super campground but we’ve certainly been in way worse!  At least we have hook-ups so we can empty and fill tanks as necessary.  Stopped off and got some groceries, then wandered around the ‘main’ part of town.  It’s sort of nice in a haphazard kinda way.  Nice flowers planted … but so many empty buildings and so many buildings put up in the 60’s that replaced any historical architecture.  It’s sad how many towns opted to tear down their history!

We had a cold drink and headed back to camp where we spent a HOT afternoon lazing in the shade.

After a super dinner of burgers and corn, Bruce is out for a bike ride and I’m hiding in the RV where we’ve got the air conditioning on for the 1st time since we’ve had it!  Never even used it in the U.S. Southwest last year!  But thank goodness for it now … it’s in the low 30’s (that’s C … not F!) and getting hotter as we head south.  The campground operator said it’s forecast to go to 41C in Kelowna this weekend!  Yikes!

We’ll stay here the nite then head out to find something more remote for a night then we’ll be heading to 108 Mile House where we’re going to hit a guest ranch and go for a trail ride (horses that is!) if I’m not melted by then!
