The cover will be coming off soon in preparation for our latest trip to the Yukon & Alaska!

We need to do a bit of work first – we’ve finally gotten some aluminum siding to replace the ‘incident’ at the Alaska border in 2014 where we ripped into the rear panel while pulling away from customs!

damage to our RV at Alaska border crossing, our home has 6 wheels
Up till now it’s been patched with the ever-popular fix-all – duct tape!  We figured it was time to do it right!

We’re starting to collect maps, looking at different sites where we can camp for free mostly!  We want to do as much boondocking as we can!

We won’t take our bikes … I don’t think there’ll be much use for them in the wilderness!  We WILL however be towing a vehicle this time – we didn’t last time – and of course we’ll be taking our kayaks!

We’re up-grading to a 4wd vehicle so we can get into some more ‘rougher’ places than we could get to in our 2011 Ford Focus.  We’ve bought a 2010 VERY LOW MILAGE Honda CRV which we’ll be getting in the next week or so.  The bad news is that of course it’s not just the expense of a new (to us) vehicle, but we have to install the Blue Ox towing stuff as well.  Bruce will try to do that himself – and I’ll bring you up-dates on how that goes.  He’s a pretty resourceful guy so I’m sure he’ll do fine – and save us hundreds of dollars as well!

I think we’ll take a tent and sleeping bags as well on this trip so we can spend a couple of ‘over-nighters’ as we paddle some more remote places.  I haven’t slept on the ground in years … but we bought new and very cushy Therma-rest pads so I think it’ll be fine!  Now I just worry about mosquitoes!

So stay tuned and start counting down till we leave – 54 days and counting!
