Driving the Alaska Highway through Kluane National Park & Reserve

Up early again and began our drive out of Alaska. The road was in turn – nice pavement to rocky gravel to undulating ribbons of pavement that felt like a roller-coaster ride. Interesting.

Thru the border again with no problems – this time we didn’t hit anything! LOL.

Bad roads at times

Undulation Alaska Highway

Drove into Beaver Creek for a stamp in our Yukon Passport Book and had lunch at Buckshot Betty’s in Beaver Creek, YT, which was ok … but we found out afterwards that they were giving away free hot dogs and burgers at the tourist info booth … just down the road!  Drat!

Swans in a pond alongside the highway in Kluane

Carried on to the Lake Creek Territorial Campground and pulled in around 2:30.  Got a nice site on the creek although it’s a bit windy to sit out.  The wind and sun are playing tag and you don’t know whether to put on a heavier shirt or take off your jacket and soak up the heat.  Kind of crazy!

Lake Creek Territorial Campground

The scenery along the way has been nothing short of stunning … mountains, lakes, meadows, trees … and we saw a moose and her calf this morning.  Woo-hoo … finally some critters!

Moose – Kluane

The campsite was a good one … it was cold but snuggly warm in our bed with the wool comforter and my doggy blanket on top!
